Constructive education – Part 8. Fundamental topic in a global society

We need a better education in our growing global society. The purpose of any education system is to create a standard of general knowledge, giving its student access to numerous field allowing the students to understand what they are naturally attracted to and equip them with the best tolls possible to handle the future. For this end, a limited number of topics are chosen, creating the core of the process of education. At the moment, the topics varies between countries around the world based on their local culture and politics. While it is true that local culture is important and relevant, it is important to understand that in a global era information regarding different cultures is as important. Moreover, In A world of connectivity in which knowledge and information is globally shared, a general standard of basic topic given to all student around the world regardless of the location of a specific state is possible and needed.

The argument claiming that education around the world should be different, comes from political motives. Its main purpose is to promote local agenda for the purpose of reinforcing local elites and maintaining ignorance in the general public. To promise an easier integration of the current generation to the emerging global era, the structure of education must combine knowledge related to local states, some general knowledge and some multicultural tools. As we are speaking on an educational period of minimum 12 years, some topics should be presented to the student before the other. There is enough time and resources is the division of the topics if done in the right manner. It is a matter of creating an efficient system in which the general and practical knowledge is passed to the future generation for the sake of their own prosperity and for benefiting the population as a whole.

Learning several languages has been proven as beneficial, increasing intellect and developing the capacity of individuals to understand different perspectives. More importantly, the capacity to speak and understand different culture will give the young generation tools allowing them to be flexible in our growing global platform.

The world is evolving and creating a new reality. It is our education system that will determine how well equipped will be the adults of tomorrow. Book Review – “Why Nations Fail” By Doran Acemoalu and James A. Robinson

My favorite Quotes from “Why Nations Fail”:

“Economic institutions shape economic incentives: the incentives to become educated, to save and invest, to innovate and adopt new technologies, and so on. It is the political process that determines what economic institutions people live under, and it is the political institutions that determine how this process works.”

“Politics is the process by which a society chooses the rules that will govern it.”

The book is recommended for people who enjoy long and profound literature. It contain 462 pages, which open the mind and enrich it reader with new and fascinating knowledge. The division of the topics and the way the conversation evolve is done extremely well. The research presented in the book cover 15 years of data collection, worth reading.

Why Nation fail, is one of the most interesting books I read recently about the reason behind poverty. Its first 100 page are a bit slow and heavy. But reading them worth it, as it lay the foundation needed to evolve such a complicated topic. In this book, A different perspective is given about the origin of Power, social evolution and the current political structure of countries around the world.

One of the most interesting things about this book, is the length that author took to explain his theory and made sure the reader understand it fully. The amount of history presented in this book is wonderful. In my experience, reading this book has not only enlarged my general knowledge. It gave me tool evaluate better our current society and the future of Globalization.
